"The storm uprooted large, healthy trees in Hyder Park and forced the local zoo to close because of extensive damage. In fact, the storm hit after 7p.m. while an outdoor concert in the zoo picnic area was being held causing people to run for safety because of the threat of falling trees and flying debris. However, one of the major problems that the city encountered were on the roads as an underpass got flooded, signal lights failed, and fallen trees and power lines blocked streets. Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry said at a news conference, “[...] if there's a natural disaster, if there's an emergency in town, we don't ever want to look back and say we underresourced that. Let's get the resources out there.” Hence, there were no reports of serious injuries, and crews managed to bring everyone to safety.
